Our Story

how we got started

After working in the brewery industry for nearly three years as a data analyst for one of the top 50 craft breweries in the country, Mathew launched Barrel Analytics. Barrel Analytics has the goal of partnering with craft microbreweries who aren't utilizing their data to influence growth decisions. During his time in the industry, Mathew has met many industry members who expressed or encouraged a need for analysis to drive company growth and he experienced first-hand how many breweries aren’t using it. During his near three-year role, he grasped an understanding for how critical data is to maximize market potential and feels driven to partner with breweries who would benefit from this insight but can’t afford a team member full time. Although incredibly important to uncover opportunities for business growth, many breweries don’t justify the upfront investment necessary. Barrel Analytics has the goal of partnering with those breweries and untapping that potential.

Mathew Bither, founder & lead analyst

Mathew worked in the brewery industry for nearly three years as a data analyst for one of the top 50 craft breweries in the country. During his time, he acted as the sole data analyst for just over two years and was responsible for the management of daily reporting, depletion and inventory analysis, new item setup, pricing and margin management and analysis, and tracked and reported supplier and distributor KPIs and provided growth reports and assisted with annual growth planning. His skills and experience in the alcohol beverage industry include excel, VIP, Craft Portal, Armadillo Insight, Orchestrated Beer, and State & Federal price posting and registration among other daily industry responsibilities. During his time as an analyst, he managed many large-scale projects as well including lost profit reports, annual YoY growth projections and distributor goals, distributor ordering model, new market launches, and brand/package/style performance analysis. The footprint he helped to manage consisted of 47 distributors across 19 domestic markets and 2 international markets. During his time with the brewery, he was a part of the team who grew the brewery from #47 largest craft brewery in 2019 to #44 largest craft brewery in 2020. When the craft brewery segment was seeing losses of -9% volume change YoY 2019 vs 2020, the brewery he was on a team with saw only a -4% loss in volume YoY in their home market which accounted for nearly 65% of their total BBLs brewed. His resume can be found in the Appendix for more insight on his experience in the industry as well as Brewers Association sources for market data referenced.

During his time with that team, he met many industry members who expressed or encouraged a need for analysis to drive company growth and he experienced first-hand how many breweries aren’t using it.
